Presentation To Be Made Regarding High Risk Sex Offender Living In Our Neighborhood
SONA member Zan Turner will speak about SONA's neighborhood awareness effort and counseling service concerning the high risk sex offender, Dennis Carl Janson, whorecently moved into our neighborhood. A report will also be given on the January 29 meeting held by City officials where the issue was discussed at length.
Dennis Carl Janson has completed his prison sentence and is now living on the 1600 block of 10th Street. Berkeley Police officers have told us that he has served all of his required prison time, is not on parole, and can live where he chooses as long as he registers his whereabouts annually with the local police department. As indicated in the recent flyer SONA members circulated, he has never been known to sneak into homes but is more likely to openly approach his victims, sometimes offering assistance as a good samaritan.

SONA Traffic Committee report
The Traffic Committee will present details about the petition and survey concerning traffic problems in our area and will discuss more fully what response and assistance it hopes to get from the City.
The SONA Traffic Committe has tabulated the surveys and reviewed the petitions circulated around Oceanview over the past few months. About 100 people have signed the petitions which ask the City to pay more attention to traffic issues in our neighborhood. About 40 people completed the more detailed surveys which pinpoint specific problem areas. The next step will be to meet with Berkeley's Chief Traffic Engineer, Chuck De Leuw ,as a follow-up to the surveys.

Looking Down The Road
In an effort to organize and refocus SONA's priorities for the new year, several possible new items of interest will be proposed in hopes of generating enough interest to create several new committees. The preliminary list includes: neighborhood beautification (revisited from last year), tutoring neighborhood children, inviting guest speakers from institutions within the neighborhood and outside (revised from last year), and the party club. We look forward to more people and new members becoming actively involved in SONA's committees and welcome any and all new committee suggestions.

James Kenney Neighborhood Watch - Meets regularly on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m. at the James Kenney Park Recreation Center. The next meetings are March 13 and April 9.
The meeting after the February meeting will be Sunday, April 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 at Tory Brady's house.
