Our Spring Party was a success!!! Our seasonal potluck/party/social took place March 23 at Alan Acacia's house. Over 20 people came to hang out on the lawn and socialize. We all look forward to the next party sometime this

summer!!!

On the agenda for the next meeting...

SONA's Neighborhood Beautification and Connection/Conexión Sub-committees...

Held their first meetings. Several exciting ideas and proposals came out of these meetings: At the Connection/Conexión Committee meeting different ways of raising community consciousness were discussed including the use of art and poetry. By the time of the next SONA meeting the Committee will have met three times and will report their progress. At the Neighborhood Beautification Committee meeting recommendations made included beautifying the barriers with plants...which we have just recently done, helping neighbors with tree planting on the sidewalk strips and renting a dumpster from the city and promoting block wide debris/refuse clean up parties. Those interested in forming a focus group on any of the other issues discussed at our February meeting are more than welcome!

Other items to be discussed:

Development update-Cody's Bookstore on 4th Street, West Berkeley Plan revision, San Pablo and University intersection.

James Kenney Neighborhood Watch Group- Report on last meeting.

SONA likes to promote the James Kenney Neighborhood Watch, which is concerned with crime and safety issues. They meet regularly on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7 to 8p.m. The next meetings will be held May 8 and June 12.

A special thanks again to the folks at the Finnish Hall for coming to our last meeting and sharing with the group the Hall's rich history and future outlook....and for allowing us to use one of their meeting rooms for the next meeting.
